Your Questions, Answered

What areas do you cover?

At the moment, we are only able to cover Wantage and Grove. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Why training style or methods do you use?

We will only ever use force-free and reward-based training methods! We will not accept any harsh handling or aversive methods during our classes, courses or programme. If you are found to be breaking this, we will give you one warning; failure to comply will result in the termination of our session and no refund will be given. This includes, but is not limited to, smacking or hitting your dog/puppy, the use of choke chains or check chains, e-collars, shock collars, prong collars, pinch collars, Pet Corrector sprays, water sprays, citronella spray collars, shouting and non-safety slip leads. The health and welfare of the dogs in our care is paramount, and we will never compromise on this. The methods we use are proven, science-based and ethical. Training should be fun for both dog and handler, not something that elicits a fear response.

Your rates seem high, why is that?

Do I have to have a behavioural consultation?

Yes! Behavioural consultations are an essential part of the whole training process and we are unable to carry out a training programme without undertaking a consultation. If you are a returning client then there is the possibility that another consultation will not be required, depending on the main training goal.

What Makes Your Dog Walking Different?

It might surprise you to learn that Dog Training is an unregulated industry. This means that anyone can claim to be a dog trainer and take your money. Because of this, we believe it is paramount that we provide you with the best training possible; in order to achieve this, we are constantly undergoing training and furthering our education. We never stop training here at The Wantage Pet Company and this is reflected in our prices. If you wish to view our qualifications, including approved professional memberships, they can be found here. This page is constantly being updated as our learning truly never stops. We understand that our prices may seem a little steep compared to other trainers out there, however, we are confident that we will be able to deliver high quality, and high-value services to you and your pets. We have invested a great deal of time and money into our education to ensure our clients are receiving training from qualified staff, who have been approved by industry leaders to show competence and knowledge within this area. It is also important to remember that this is our job. We are passionate and empathetic trainers who adore what we do, but we also need to earn a living in doing so. Our work doesn't stop when we leave the training session, we also spend a great deal of time creating your bespoke training plans and compiling comprehensive reports following the sessions. We do not rush these and ensure that the plans are detailed and easy to follow; this can take several hours to create. We also provide a huge amount of training resources to be used alongside the bespoke plans and reports that we create - giving you everything you need to be successful with your training. If you would like to know more about our pricing structure or our accreditation, please do not hesitate to get in touch. If you would like to find other accredited, vetted and approved dog trainers please ensure you check their qualifications, experience and training methods. There are also no hidden charges when you book with The Wantage Pet Company - all prices are inclusive of VAT.

We're glad you asked! We are the only pet care provider in Wantage that offers specialist walking services for reactive dogs, or those who need a little extra something during their walks. All walks are carried out by a canine body language specialist who is continually assessing the environment and your dog's body language to ensure they are comfortable and in the right frame of mind. Should a situation arise, the dog will be moved away and brought to a more appropriate environment before the dog becomes stressed or over-aroused. This further sets the dog up for success and makes the walk an enjoyable experience for them; instead of being a potentially stressful one! This is a bespoke walking service that caters to your dog's individual needs and individualities. As a standard on our walks, we include basic lead manner training, polite greetings (if appropriate) and any other behaviours you are currently training will also be rehearsed. Not only does this keep your dog engaged and appropriately stimulated, but also allows ongoing progression to make walking a more pleasurable activity for both dog and owner. If you would like to discuss your individual dog's requirements in greater detail please contact Lollie at hello@thewantagepetcompany.com.

I want my dog to be walked in a group, is that possible?
